Quasi-periodic X-ray Flares from the Protostar Ylw15
With ASCA, we have detected three X-ray flares from the Class I protostar YLW15. The flares occurred every ∼20 hours and showed an exponential decay with time constant 30–60 ks. The X-ray spectra are explained by a thin thermal plasma emission. The plasma temperature shows a fast-rise and slow-decay for each flare with kTpeak ∼ 4–6 keV. The emission measure of the plasma shows this time profile...
متن کاملOptical Identification of the X-ray Burster in the Globular
We have obtained exposures of the field of X 0512-401 in the globular cluster NGC1851, in X-rays with the Chandra X-ray Observatory, and in the far-UV with the Hubble Space Telescope. We derive an accurate new X-ray position (within ∼1) for X 0512-401, which enables us to confirm that the only plausible candidate for the optical/UV counterpart is the Star A, which we previously identified from ...
متن کاملKilohertz Quasi-periodic Oscillations in Low-mass X-ray Binaries
In early 1996 a series of discoveries begun with NASA’s Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer of a new, up to then unknown astrophysical phenomenon. It turned out that accreting low magnetic-field neutron stars show quasi-periodic oscillations in their X-ray flux at rates of up to more than a kilohertz. These kHz QPO, now reported from eleven different systems, are among the fastest phenomena in the sky ...
متن کاملAnticorrelated Hard/Soft X-ray Emission from the X-Ray Burster 4U 0614+091
We have detected transient X-ray activity from the X-ray burster 4U 0614+091 simultaneously with BATSE/CGRO (20–100 keV) and ASM/RXTE (1–12 keV). The peak fluxes reach approximately 40 mCrab in both instruments over a period of about 20 days. The variable emission shows a clear anticorrelation of the hard X-ray flux with the soft X-ray count rate. The observed anticorrelation is another clear c...
